Questions that cannot be answered "no"

Questions that cannot be answered

What questions cannot be answered "no"? Such a problem for quick wits is set for students in some schools.

But adults will probably be interested in what questions exist, which a priori cannot be answered in the form of refusal.

Questions that cannot be answered "no": types of questions

All questions are divided into types. There are only five of them: open, closed, leading, return and hypothetical.

  • Open questions begin with the words: “What”, “where”, “how”, “why” And they are used for the most part so that the interlocutor is involved in the conversation, i.e., so that feedback is established with him. At the same time, the initiator of the dialogue analyzes the opinion of his counterpart and decides for himself how confidential relations were established between them. Examples: “What are you doing today?”, “Where are you learning?”, “How to solve the problem?”, “Why did you put on an evening dress?”.

It is impossible to say “no” to questions of an open type - it will need to be answered specifically here.

  • For closed type questions are required unequivocal - "Yes or no". With active communication, use them inefficiently. If you are satisfied with the unambiguous answer - to clarify or confirm the available information, or make your choice from the available two options, then in this case to ask questions of the closed type is quite acceptable. Examples: "Will you go to school today?", "The book you read is interesting?" As you can see, in this option it is impossible to answer only “yes”.

  • Leading With questions you can provoke a person to your expected answer. In the subtext of such a question, a certain manipulation is usually hidden, so the answer, most likely, will not be the personal opinion of the person’s asked. Special speeds used in leading matters are usually achieved by positive answers. Examples: “You are counting on the award, so you will linger after work today, isn't it?”, “So that I behave well, do you buy ice cream for me?” It is precisely to leading questions that it is most often impossible to answer “no”, since a person is put in a certain hopeless position.
  • Return questions It is emphasized that you are listening carefully to your interlocutor, that this conversation is interesting for you, and you are not against its continuation. “No” usually does not answer such questions, but only agree with the statement of their counterparts. Examples: “Did you say that you are a“ round ”excellent student?”, “Did you mention that you are studying at the Academy?” A person will definitely answer such return questions positively.
  • By using hypothetical issues The topic is selected for conducting dialogue, they can also ask the conversation the tone you need. To answer hypothetical questions, some reflections and sounding their thoughts may be required. Examples: “What would you change, becoming the director of the plant?”, “Would you have the opportunity to choose what profession would you choose for yourself?” Naturally, it is simply impossible to answer such hypothetical questions.
