How to make glass tiles with your own hands?

Let's start creating glass tiles with our own hands:

  1. We prepare glass bottles, polyester resin, dyes, hardener, shape, and an even surface on which tiles will harden.
  2. We break bottles or other glass products into pieces.
  3. We break large pieces of glass with a hammer into pieces as smaller as possible or chop them in a concrete mixer, a crusher, having previously added a little water so that glass dust does not fly in the air. The ideal option for glass particles is 1-3 mm.
  4. Add polyester resin to crushed glass. It should be 1 kg of broken glass 50-100 g.
  5. To harden the tiles faster, add 2 to 30 g of hardener per 1 kg of glass powder, the larger, the faster the tiles will harden.
  6. We add to the glass mass the dye, the amount of it depends on the saturation of the color that you want to get.
  7. Mix the mass well. Remember, the smaller the glass is smaller, the more homogeneous the color will turn out.
  8. We prepare a flat table. Pour the resulting mass in pure forms, previously lubricated with technical petroleum jelly or other fat -containing agents. The forms can be store or make it yourself from durable plastic, gypsum, metal. Glass tile should harden at least 1 hour.
  9. Before the distribution of masses, you need to think about how we will remove air bubbles, otherwise they can spoil the appearance of the tiles. Vacuum machines cope in large industries with air bubbles. At home, air bubbles from tiles can be removed if the mixture is a little heated before spill in the mold, and then shit in the form several times. After a while, the vibration must be repeated.
  10. When glass tiles harden, they can be removed from the shape.
