How to mix acrylic, oil and watercolor paints to obtain the desired color: table, proportions
Mix acrylic paints
We propose to get acquainted with the lesson of the famous artist and called teacher, author of the book "Acrylic Painting with Lee Hammond". Lee Hammond warns, although from childhood we allegedly know that, having mixed red and blue we get purple, acrylic paints have a different pigmentation and most likely you find brown on the palette.
Important: read pigments on packages. Have you seen on the shelves of stores lie up to 15 types of one shade? Do you think this to fill the window? No, this is presented the same color with various pigments. Therefore, we write out or photograph the color on the smartphone - the necessary pigment and already with this we go to the store for replenishing paints.
Also note that pigments are transparent, translucent and dense consistency. Therefore, you can buy completely different structures from the same manufacturer of colors. This is not a marriage, but the properties of the pigment.
So, in order to get an almost complete spectrum of colors, only 7 colors are enough. For beginners, it is recommended to purchase these colors, and in the future, at their own discretion, buy additional shades.
Please note that we specially do not translate the name of the primary colors so that you can name them in the store and purchase the necessary pigments:
- Main: Cadmium Yellow Medium
- Main: Cadmium Red Medium
- Main: Prussian Blue
- Additional: Alizarin Crimson
- Additional: BURNT UMBER
- Neutral: Ivory Black
- Neutral: Titanium White
We bought, prepared a canvas for an experiment and move on to magic.
The first experiment - we mix each color with white and get new, amazing pastel and delicate shades. We give a table of strokes with the signature of what we mixed.
Well, now from Lev to the right, from the first to the bottom we analyze the shades that we managed to get: Balled; peach or as it is also called coral; light pink; beige; sky blue; Gray or light asfall.
Now we try to mix all the colors with black, the result is in the table below.
And we got such colors: hacks or dark green; chestnut; plum; Saturated brown; dark blue.
But this is all simple, now let's move on to a more complex option to mix acrylic paints, but interesting! Mix and get all the shades of green.
As we have already done, we mix two colors that are under the smear and get just such a shade.
Additionally, we received: olive-green color; a gray-green shade resembling asphalt after the rain reflecting green crowns of trees; bottle-green; mint.
We also recommend mixing yellow and blue in different proportions and fix shades for the future, yellow with a drop of black and a little brown. In order to study the palette, it may take more than one week!
The next step is purple and purple tones and halftones. In order to get such shades, it will be required that the Berlin azure or alizarin is a pink or red cadmium in the set for work. Two examples for mixing: Prussian Blue + Cadmium Red Medium or Prussian Blue + Alizarin Crimson.
We got colors: chestnut, saturated gray gray, plum and a shade of lavender.
Now add a white pigment and stir, add more dropped to each option. Pay attention to what kind of riot of color it began to play in your hands!
Sunny shades. This is how the shades of orange artists love to call, these are beautiful raising moods of tone. They are obtained by mixing red with additional colors.
On this table, we received: orange as it is, peach, brick, coral.
Earthen shades can be obtained when adding a burner (international value Burnt Umber). If there is a need to get pastel shades of these tones, it is enough to add a drop of white pigment.
In this case, we received earthen shades: Umbra; brick; dark turquoise; Sepia is dark; dirty beige; pastel-lilac; blue steel; Gray warm shade.
Mix oil paints
In oil paints, the situation with a palette is a little easier and one pigment is used in one color, so we will not give the basic colors, but leave the name of the color exclusively. The rules that we remember since childhood are just the rules of oil paints.
