Folk signs on the baptism of the Lord January 19
Our ancestors really believed in Epiphany signs, so on this day they were very observant. At baptism, they tried to find out what would bring them a year, and also what would happen to the weather and crop.
Folk signs:
- If on the Epiphany night there is not a single cloud in the sky and the stars are clearly visible, then this is a sure sign that spring will be early, and summer and autumn are very warm and rainy.
- The calm weather and the clear sky predict a calm year without any unpleasant shocks. This means that you can safely start something new, for example, build a house, open your job or start a family. If you make all these decisions carefully, then they will definitely bring you happiness.
- If the baptism of the Lord coincided with the full moon, then this is a sure sign that spring can begin with strong floods and spills of rivers.
- If this winter holiday is celebrated on the new moon, then this is also not a very good sign. As a rule, this position of the heavenly luminar indicates that spring will be very late and frosty, and a cold and overly rainy summer will come behind it.
- A good sign is a large snow cover or snowfall into Christmas Eve. This weather behavior indicates that before the next baptism of the Lord, no terrible epidemics and diseases are expected.
- If it rains in Christmas Eve or Baptism or a very strong wind blow, then this may indicate that the coming year will be very restless both in political and economic terms. Moreover, such weather indicates that very soon there can be a lot of tears.
- Unmarried girls and women on this day tried to find out their fate. In the morning they went out onto the road and waited for a passerby. If the first who they saw was a healthy economic man, then this meant that they would soon meet their soul mate. A child or an elderly person indicated that they would not meet a loved one in the near future.
