  • Most historians agree that the game was first created in North India during the Gupta Empire in the VI century AD. This early type was known as the Sanskrit word chatural.
    • The game was designed for the military. Gupta chess figures were divided taking into account the characteristics of their military units: infantry, cavalry, elephants and chariots. Over time, these elements grew with the usual names for us and with about the same images.
    • The earliest written certificates of chess are found in 3 romances (epic stories) written in the Sassanid Persia in the 600s. The game was known as Chatrang or Shatranj.
    • When Persia was captured by Muslims, the game spread to the entire Muslim world. Muslim merchants brought the game to Russia and Western Europe. By the 21st century, it spread throughout Europe. In the XIII century, the Spanish manuscript described the rules of the game in the tents (chess), backgammon and bones.
    • The game has changed a lot in the period of time between 1470 and 1495. The rules of the old game were changed in the West. That is why some figures had more opportunities, and the game was more exciting.
    • The new game formed the basis of modern international chess. Chess researchers consider innovations introduced by Western European chess players, the most important change in the history of the game.
